Officers and members of Arlington Park Neighborhood Association, Ladies and Gentlemen; I am Pete Theisen, I am the Anti Growth candidate.

Growth” means tearing down low cost housing – people's homes - and replacing it with expensive high rise condo or “mixed use” towers that sit vacant and empty unsold for many years. What is the sense in that?

Sarasota is built-out, not in terms of land/sky area, but in terms of traffic – you can't drive or walk anymore! Our main roads either choke off pedestrian access or they restrict traffic flow. If they are made wider they can't be easily crossed on foot, if they are left the same width car traffic is restricted. Enough already!

We need to concentrate on moving people rather than moving cars. We need overhead trains and neighborhood shuttles to move people.

You can build the overhead rail system with the same skills and tools that our building trades people now have. If we award a concession to a supplier/provider or get federal funding we won't even need any local tax money to do it. Marina Jack's is a concession – how successful is that?

An eight passenger golf-cart neighborhood shuttle network could feed the trains and buses making their use attractive so people will actually ride them. For corner store or in neighborhood trips the shuttle alone would be all anyone needed.

Do this and we will have transportation and jobs as well.
